沒能趕上的閱讀進度不至於影響下一個階段的學習
單元式的課程反而讓我不知不覺怠惰
不若第一期的計量, miserable一周, 下週就可以不用來了…
不過課堂上追趕不上的感覺卻是一致的
大學期間學的不甚扎實的個經, 現在只剩一個影子
新的課程不是加深理論的複雜度
而是把過去所有的基礎搬到數學的符號邏輯去施展
consumer bundle, goods, risk aversion…全部模型化
the switch already is a challenge, not to mention the disadvantage of having a professor that doesn’t seem to be very bright about these basic model building.
But the most important thing I really wish to get from his lecture is the reasoning. Why and what is the logic of building the model this way, instead of deriving the whole process in length.
In contrary, Claire is the best in balancing these two. She always built the model along with in depth reasoning, then derived the process with us and discusses the implication of this model in class with us. That is how we learn!
有鑿於週日的信, 接下來的三天
回到家就是榨腦汁,繼續唸paper找資料寫報告 very intense and unease.
Basically the proposal consist of:
I. Intro—1.where and how I got interested in this idea/topic. 2. the research question.
II. Literature review—相關的論文研究
III. Methodology—how am I going to approach this toip.
IV. Reference
整份提案其實是在寫作的過程才逐漸把題目釐清
沒有人討論下, 太多的想法在腦海中糾結
因此除了最開始引起我有這個模糊的研究想法的研究
對於我做這個研究所需的研究方法並不適用
在寫作literature review 及methodology時格外困難
必須一邊寫一邊繼續找新的paper引用, 把想法稍稍具體化
我覺得其實這樣的寫法與研究是很偏頗的
想法上欠缺邏輯必定隱含了不少致命的漏洞
反觀Kriti借我參考的報告, 他的idea雖然沒有太多新意
不過能沿用前人的研究法做印度的個案研究, methodology上具體的多
原本教授要求的兩頁, 他衝了六七頁, 我也拼了衝出五六頁的成果
到週三早上, 儘管還是不滿意, 但是必須告訴自己只能如此的收尾寄出

跳過未提的周二, 換我的學生disappoint me.
每週要求的練習題不能組合成報告,
上週講解半天的structure也不見蹤影
有幾組真的讓我超擔心
I know they understand to a certain degree of the structure now,
But were lazy in putting effort on writing all the analysis in detail.
Sign… talk to Mark about the situation I have,
It seems that I am not along…relief…
But I really put effort in supervising you, unlike my professor let me live on my own….
Please show me the result that you are working on it!
I guess I have to learn to understand that I cannot make all of them work hard and try to understand as well that they have their choice as well as responsibility in this as well.

週三的research method開始spatial單元--經濟中的空間研究
首先介紹了今年的諾貝爾獎得主Paul Krugman的研究概念
Secondly pose the big question of economics of geography:
àwhy country with similar resources and outputs trade?
The answer basically is:
To seize economics of scale in producing goods
and increase product diversity within a country.
簡單的slides中呈現了很多世界貿易的fact
ex.文革期間的人口劇減竟然在世界總人口成長統計資料中造成50%以上的劇減
也show 了一些不太簡單的模型推倒過程
(希望這個單元的期末考不要是這個才好….)
all in all, they are very interesting. And convince me again that choosing GEO as minor is not a incredibly stupid mistake. The international trade theory is still on my list of a direction for a thesis topic! An’t giving up like this on Geo!

趕報告沒複習唸懂得個經在週四的解題課中有把我吞沒
課前加上了一堂沒有辦法在週二出席的supervise課
竟然被學生電 >< 她們自修了軟體介紹的additional tool—VIF
把我問的一愣一愣的, 儘管聽他們說完大約知道怎麼回是
不過仍沒辦法告訴他們該如何解讀圖表呈現的結果
助教真的不是萬能的阿….
儘管他們看來都還對我十分信任, 也恨重視我的意見
但是真的不能在漏氣了, 失信後就很難在regain的阿!
我也不想要讓學生覺得老師找的候選人很弱, 這樣就太對不住老師了
期末evaluation, 希望他們對我的努力也是肯定的才好
所謂教學相長, 我也要去搞懂VIF是什麼鼕鼕才行!
Friday博班學長present他沒能投遞出的論文
由於過了當時熱門的話題性, 現在沒有期刊要收
聽的出他的無奈與感慨
做研究的最後要求還是要有相當的時事性發嗎?

12/5一年一渡的Santa Clause Day學校單位一點後一律休假
原本想要一起唸書的計畫就被巧克力&咖啡取代
這是第一次research master一起have after work drinks
it was very relaxing and free. We talk and chat and can always come back to the topic of the celebration of Santa and other festivals in different countries. 荷蘭 羅馬尼亞 印度 台灣 一個奇異的組合, 因此總又太多的異同可以比較增廣視野, 非常有趣.
從去年開始幾乎每天早上一杯咖啡
現在開始逐漸增加到兩杯的量, 成癮似的享受這種咖啡書香的生活
but never after three I forbid myself!
偶爾稍稍熬夜的生活是禁不起咖啡因的
第一期的期末考, 緊張睡不著熬夜咖啡,
久違的心悸, 連手指都在顫抖, 告訴自己在也不敢了….

週六週日趕趕延宕的個經濟進度
這本課本真的很難懂, 一句英文讀不出意義
逐漸修正了自己對於定義的質疑
學著去接受他, 理解他, 然後進入下一個部分的討論
感覺進步的很少很慢.
